Robert Deans was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, and attested for the Royal Scots Fusiliers at Irvine, Ayrshire. He served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on 2 September 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
