16th (Bedfordshire) Regiment Junior Officer’s 1869 Pattern Shako and Unnamed Carrying Tin, a fine quality example, the blue cloth body and crown with gold lace trimming, the gilt metal frontal place of crowned laurel pattern with central Garter motto and pierced numerals ‘16’, gilt metal rose side ornaments and correct pattern chin chain, gilt metal plume holder with mounted ‘VR’ cypher and a white over red ball plume, purple leather sweat band with similar and crimson lining, supplied by ‘Stovel & Grant, Bond St., London’; the japanned metal carrying tin with evidence of a removed plaque, one minute moth hole to the crown and some patent leather accretions to the rim of the crown as there is evidence of the foul weather cover in the carrying tin having disintegrated, chin chain velvet lining mostly detached, silk lining part perished and with faults, hasp on the carrying tin missing £400-500
