9th (Queen’s Royal) Lancers Officer’s Schapska and Named Carrying Tin c. 1880-1901, of special pattern the black patent leather skull with similar front peak bound in brass, gilt metal leaf pattern band around the base of the top, the walls of the trencher top in quilted black cloth, black patent leather top, the very fine frontal plate overlaid with gilt mounts comprising the special pattern Royal Arms peculiar to the regiment, unit title and battle honours to Kandahar and Afghanistan, above the unit title in silver the double cypher ‘AR’ (Adelaide Regina), gilt metal boss with correct period gilt button, ribbed chin chain of the correct pattern and lion’s head side ornaments, incorrect all white swan feather plume with an other ranks holder, buff leather sweat band and remains of crimson silk lining by ‘Hawkes & Co., London’; the metal japanned tin again by Hawkes & Co., London named to ‘C. Bishop Esq., 9th Queen’s R.L. Lancers’, some crazing to the front peak on the cap, the tin with rust and several splits mainly around the top area otherwise very good overall condition £1500-2000
