Kingdom of Hanover George V Period 1851-1866 Dragoon or Horse Artillery Officer’s Helmet, the black leather skull complete with a dark brown bear skin crest, sewn in and chained blue velvet turban, the right side bearing a gilt metal badge displaying the Royal crown of Hanover over a circle bearing the monogram ‘GR’ over ‘V’, the deep frontal peak of black patent leather trimmed with brass and bearing two gilt metal labels ‘Waterloo’ & ‘Goe H R De’, the rear of the velvet turban with a ten drop gold lace decoration, original 1.8 cm leather chin strap (repaired), replacement leather sweat band, a push in white over red feather hackle, the Waterloo strip detached at one end, the front peak trim split, the leather skull appears to have been repaired at some time otherwise good condition for age £500-700

Note: King George V by now totally blind succeeded his father in 1851, for backing Austria against Prussia in 1866 the Kingdom was annexed by the Prussians and the King deposed though he never abdicated. He died in 1878.
