William Walter Henry Ellis was born in Clapham, London, in October 1899, and joined the Royal Navy as Boy 2nd Class in May 1915. His subsequent service included with H.M.S. Almanzora (armed merchant cruiser), September 1915 - January 1919 (entitled 1914-15 Star trio). Ellis advanced to Stoker 1st Class and transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve in 1922. He was discharged from the latter in October 1938.
