David McIntosh was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, in May 1870, and joined the Royal Navy as Boy 2nd Class in May 1888. Having been rated as Petty Officer 1st Class, McIntosh reverted to Leading Seaman and subsequent service included in H.M.S. Goliath, November 1900 - October 1903.
After three years of being Petty Officer 2nd Class, McIntosh remained as an Able Seaman for the rest of his service. During the Great War his service included with H.M.S. Barham, August 1915 - December 1915 (entitled 1914-15 Star trio). McIntosh was Shore Demobilised, 19 December 1919.
