Ghuznee Cabul 1842 (Gunner Francis Byrne 1st Troop Horse Brigade Bombay Arty.) correctly engraved in running script, fitted with original steel clip and bar suspension, good very fine £800-1000

Francis Byrne was a native of Nenagh, County Tipperary, and attested for the East India Company’s Infantry at Clonmel in April 1838. He arrived in Bombay in October 1838, and was posted as a Private in the Bombay European Regiment. Byrne transferred as a Gunner to the 4th Troop Bombay Horse Artillery the following month. He subsequently transferred to the 1st Troop Horse Artillery, and served with Leslie’s Troop at the Battle of Hyderabad, 24 March 1843 (entitled to Scinde Medal for Hyderabad). Byrne died 17 December 1843.
