Army of India 1799-1826, 1 clasp, Bhurtpoor (Ensign Geo. Gillman, 41st N.I.) short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, minor nicks and marks, otherwise nearly extremely fine £1200-1400

Provenance: Glendining, September 1933; Spink, June 1989; The Armoury, August 1993.

George Gillman was born in Galway in November 1803, the son of Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Gillman, late of the 15th Foot.

Appointed a Cadet in the Honourable East India Company’s Forces, he arrived in India in May 1824 and was posted as an Ensign to the 41st Native Infantry. Quickly seeing action at the siege and capture of Bhurtpoor (Medal & clasp), he was advanced to Lieutenant in February 1826, when he transferred to the 30th Native Infantry. Having then removed to the 31st Native Infantry in June 1830, he was present in operations against the Chuars in 1832 and was advanced to Captain in August 1836.

Gillman retired in March 1837 and is believed to have died in 1866.
