Military General Service 1793-1814, 6 clasps, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, St. Sebastian, Orthes, Toulouse (James McGuirk, R. Arty.) crack to left side of lower carriage, third clasp sprung at left and with traces of solder, light contact marks, otherwise very fine £1400-1600

James McGuirk was born in the Parish of Clonfickle, near Blackwater, county Tyrone, and enlisted into the Royal Artillery Drivers in August 1803, aged 20, a weaver by trade. He served three years in the Peninsula with ‘F’ Troop, attached to Sympher’s 4 Foot Artillery Company, King’s German Legion. He was discharged at Woolwich on 30 June 1817, in consequence of ‘being ruptured and thereby rendered unfit for service is placed on the Pension List at nine pence per day.’ Sold with copied discharge papers.
