Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Algiers (Henry Armstrong.) suspension re-affixed, good very fine £600-700

Henry Armstrong served as Ordinary Seaman in H.M.S.
Queen Charlotte when the combined English and Dutch fleets attacked the heavily fortified town of Algiers, 27 August 1816.

Henry Armstrong was born in South Shields, County Durham. He entered the Royal Navy in 1811, and served with a number of ships advancing to Able Seaman, until being discharged sick at Simon’s Town in June 1821. Armstrong rejoined the Navy under the alias ‘John Stevenson’ in July 1823. He served in a variety of ships on a variety of stations over the next 30 years, culminating with service in the Royal William March 1854 - January 1855 (entitled to Baltic Medal).

Armstrong qualified for a Naval Outpension in August 1842, and in later life resided at 2 Wyndham Street East, Plymouth. He died in December 1872.
