Thomas Bagnall was a native of Leeds. He initially served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment in the French theatre of war from 5 November 1914. Bagnall subsequently advanced to Sergeant, and transferred to the 6th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment.
