James C. Robinson attested for the Northumberland Fusiliers and served during the Great War on the Western Front from 23 November 1915. Transferring to the Cheshire Regiment (his Medal Index Card giving the Regimental number 52301) he served first with the 11th Battalion, and then with the 1st Battalion, and was awarded the Military Medal and Mentioned in Despatches. Promoted Corporal, and appointed Acting Sergeant, he was demobilised on 3 April 1919.
