F. J. Parker served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards in the French theatre of war from 30 August 1914. The Battalion served as part of the 1st Guards Brigade, Guards Division on the Somme from the end of July 1916 onwards. They suffered particularly heavy casualties during the attacks in around Les Boeufs throughout September 1916.
