M.I.D. London Gazette 12 September 1946:
‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services whilst a Prisoner of War.’

Charles William Crockett was born in Port Talbot, South Wales, in July 1919, and served with the Royal Army Service Corps during the Second World War. He was taken Prisoner of War on 17 February 1942, following the fall of Singapore, whilst holding the rank of acting Warrant Officer Class II, and was held captive in various Prisoner of War camps in Thailand. He was liberated on 2 September 1945. Remaining in the Army, he was commissioned Lieutenant (Quartermaster) in the Royal Army Service Corps on 23 March 1962, and was promoted Captain on 28 April 1964 and Major on 28 April 1970. He retired on 13 June 1974.
