Three: Sergeant G. Linson, Border Regiment

1914-15 Star (11309 Pte. G. Linson. Bord: R.); British War and Victory Medals (11309 Sjt. G. Linson. Bord. R.); together with the recipient’s card identity tag; and a Third Army Musketry Camp, British Expeditionary Force Prize Medal, bronze, the reverse inscribed ‘Skill at Arms, Won by Sergt. G. George Linson was born in Ancoats, Lancashire, in March 1895, and attested for the Border Regiment. He served with the 6th Battalion during the Great War in the Balkan theatre of War from 18 July 1915, and subsequently saw service with the 11th and 1st/5th Battalions. At some time he must have been wounded as a photograph of him exists showing him with a wound stripe on his left forearm. He was discharged to Class ‘Z’ Reserve on 19 February 1919.
He was severely wounded in an accident at his place of work when a lorry reversing ran over him, and he died of his injuries at the Manchester Infirmary on 3 August 1940. He is buried in the Willow Grove Cemetery, Reddish.

Sold with the recipient’s Certificate of Transfer to the Reserve; Certificate of Employment during the War; National Registration Identity Card; a large number of Savings Account booklets; letters; and other correspondence relating to the recipient’s funeral and burial; and various other ephemera, including a photographic image of the recipient.
