Robert Frederick George Bartropp was born in Ilford, Essex in 1899 and served during the Great War in the Royal Fusiliers. Emigrating to Canada after the War, he served during the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Engineers, and was advanced to Warrant Officer Class II (Company Sergeant Major). He died on 13 November 1945, presumably as a result of wounds received or illness contracted whilst on active service, and is buried under a Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstone in Montreal (Mount Royal) Cemetery, Canada.

Sold with the recipient’s Second War identity tag and riband bar.
