Joseph Smith (also listed as Joe) was born at Collingbourne Kingston, Wiltshire, in 1883 and attested there for the Wiltshire Regiment. He served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on 28 October 1914. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial, France. His name is also commemorated on the Collingbourne Kingston Village War Memorial, School War Memorial and Church War Memorial.
