1914 Star, with clasp (7183 Pte. F. Bates. 1/R. Sc: Fus.) British War and Victory Medals (7183 Pte. F. R. Bates. R.S. Fus.); Memorial Plaque (Frederick Bates); Memorial Scroll, last in postage tube addressed to ‘Mrs E. J. George, 18 Blackman St. Brighton’, together with Princess Mary Christmas Tin, enclosure slips for the 1914 Star and for the clasp, and a Christmas card from recipient, the latter documentation also addressed to Mrs George, generally good very fine (lot) £400-500

Frederick Reeves Bates was born in Stepney, London, and resided in Hove, Sussex. He served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers in the French theatre of war from 8 September 1914. Bates died of wounds, 24 October 1914, and is buried in Bethune Town Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Mrs E. J. George was the recipients ex-wife.
