Four: Private William Doherty, 10th Foot, who was wounded by a matchlock ball at Goojerat

Sutlej 1845-46, for Sobraon 1846, no clasp (Wm. Doherty. 10th Foot.); Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Mooltan, Goojerat (Wm. Doherty. 10th Foot.); Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Lucknow (W. Doherty, 1st Batn. 10th Regt.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (1506. Wm. Doherty, 1st Bn. 10th Foot) the first two officially impressed but slightly later issues, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine or better (4) £1200-1400

William Doherty was born at Glendermott, Co. Derry, and attested for the 10th Foot at Glasgow on 15 March 1842, aged 18. He was discharged at Chatham on 24 March 1865, having served a total of 23 years 10 days. He was then ‘in possession of five good conduct badges. Medal for the Sutledge Campaign. Medal for Punjab, clasps “Mooltan” and “Goojerat”. Indian Mutiny Medal, clasp “Lucknow”. Medal for “Good Conduct and Long Service” - without gratuity. Wounded in the mouth at Goojerat by a Matchlock ball 21st February 1849’. Sold with copied discharge papers.
