Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Lieut. W. H. G. Palmer, 40th Madras N.I.) good very fine £300-400

William Henry Greenwell Palmer, Lieutenant-General, Retired List, Indian Staff Corps, died at 22 Cornwall-road on the 15th instant, aged 67 years. He entered the Army in 1848, and received his Lieutenant’s commission in 1851. He obtained his company in 1861, and was promoted Major in 1868, Lieutenant-Colonel in 1874, Colonel in 1879, Major-General in 1889, and Lieutenant-General in 1892. He was placed on the unemployed supernumerary list in 1888. General Palmer was actively employed during the mutiny against the rebels in the Sambalpur district in 1858, for which he received the medal. (Accompanying undated obituary refers)
