Thomas William Vivash was born in Marlborough in 1848, and attested for the Rifle Brigade at Reading on 5 October 1870. He served in India from October 1873 to April 1886, and in Afghanistan during the Second Afghan War (entitled to Medal with clasp for Ali Musjid). After completing his period of service he was discharged at Woolwich in 1888.
