Sutlej 1845-46, for Moodkee 1845, 3 clasps, Ferozeshuhur, Aliwal, Sobraon (Charles Deeks 50th. Regt.) nearly extremely fine £700-900

Charles Deeks attested for the 50th (Queen’s Own) Foot at London on 19 August 1834 and served with the Regiment in Australia from 1835 before proceeding to India in early 1841. He served with the Regiment during the Gwalior Campaign, and was present at the Battle of Punniar, 29 December 1843 (entitled to Star). He subsequently served during the First Sikh War, and was present at the Battles of Moodkee, 18 December 1845, where the Regiment suffered 126 casualties; Ferozeshuhur, 21-22 December 1845, where the Regiment suffered 118 casualties; Aliwal, 28 January 1846, where the Regiment suffered 77 casualties; and Sobraon, the ‘Indian Waterloo’, 10 February 1846, where the Regiment suffered 233 casualties. Promoted Corporal on 21 May 1846, Deeks died at the Regimental Headquarters in Loodianna on 7 August 1846.
