Sutlej 1845-46, for Moodkee 1845, 1 clasp, Ferozeshuhur (Samuel Chedwick 31st. Regt.) edge bruise, nearly extremely fine £500-700

Samuel Chedwick attested for the 31st Foot at Nottingham on 16 November 1839 and served with the Regiment in India and Afghanistan, joining at Agra on 3 March 1841 (additionally entitled to Cabul Medal 1842). He served in Captain Edward Lugard’s Company during the First Sikh War, and was present at the Battles of Moodkee, 18 December 1845, and Ferozeshuhur, 21-22 December 1845, where the Regiment suffered 142 casualties. Chedwick was amongst those severely wounded, and he died of his wounds at Loodianna on 28 February 1846.
