Alfred Karrer was awarded the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 17 May 1944. A note in his file states that after leaving the service he changed his Christian name from Alfred to Earl, and a replacement medal reflecting his new initial was issued to him on 10 April 1962.
