Three: Captain M. Todd, 1/6th (Rifles) Battalion, Liverpool Regiment

Murray Todd was born in 1877, the son of Hadden Todd, and was educated at Liverpool College. He was employed in his father’s business, an iron and steel merchant based in St. Helens and Widnes. Todd was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 6th Battalion, King’s Liverpool Regiment, in March 1906. He served during the Great War with the 1/6th Battalion in the French theatre of war from 29 February 1915. Todd served with the Battalion at Hill 60 as part of the Second Battle of Ypres. He advanced to Captain and subsequently served with the Railway Transport Establishment from September 1915. He relinquished his commission in March 1918, and returned to the family business.

Todd became Chairman and Senior Partner of the company as it developed into an engineering firm, and he retired in 1947. He resided in later life at Kings Gap Court, Hoylake, Wirral, and died in April 1960. He is buried in Hildeburgh’s Church, Hoylake.

Sold with a comprehensive bound scrap book replete with photographs, letters and newspaper cuttings relating to the Todd family, and comprehensive file of copied research.
