Three: Lieutenant A. C. Maclean, 296 Railway Company, Royal Engineers, killed in action on the Western Front on 9 April 1918

Alec Clarkson Maclean was born at Ryde, Isle of Wight, in October 1884, the son of General H. I. Maclean, and was educated at Haileybury College and at the Crystal Palace School of Engineering. He gained his practical engineering training on the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway and was later appointed an Assistant Engineer on the Lagos Government Railway. In 1910 he joined the staff of the Buenos Aires Western Railway and was engaged on construction and maintenance. He was elected an Associate Member of the Civil Engineers Institution in January 1910. During the Great War he served with 296 Railway Company, Royal Engineers, and was killed in action on the Western Front on 9 April 1918. He is buried in Haverskerque British Cemetery, France. His brother Captain Ivan Clarkson Maclean D.S.O., M.C. & Bar, M.D., Royal Army Medical Corps, died of wounds as Prisoner of War on 4 April 1918.
