Arthur Oliver Snowden was born in Southwold, Suffolk, in September 1892. He joined the Royal Naval Reserve in June 1912, and service during the Great War included with H.M.S. Mantua (armed merchant cruiser), August 1914 - December 1916. Having advanced to Leading Seaman he was demobilised in June 1919.

Frederick George Stannard was born in Southwold, Suffolk. He served during the Great War with the 11th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). He was killed in action on the Western Front, 11 October 1917, and is buried in Minty Farm Cemetery, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.
