Pair: Private G. Scott, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 1 clasp, The Nile 1884-85 (96. Pte. G. Scott. 2/D of Corn: L.I.); Khedive’s Star 1884-6, unnamed as issued, extremely fine (2) £200-240

George Scott was born in Heston, Middlesex, in 1863 and attested for the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry at Aldershot on 4 August 1881, having previously served in the 4th (Militia) Battalion, Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge’s Own). He served with the 2nd Battalion in Egypt and the Sudan from 1 December 1882, and took part in the Nile Expedition of 1884-85 in the unsuccessful effort to relieve General Gordon in Khartoum. Returning home on 17 June 1886, he transferred to the Army Reserve on 9 April 1887, and was discharged on 3 August 1893, after 12 years’ service. Following the outbreak of the Boer War he re-enlisted at Hounslow, Middlesex, on 19 April 1900 on a One Year Short Service with the Colours engagement, and served at home in the 2nd Battalion, Royal Southern Reserve Regiment. He was discharged on 18 April 1901, after a further 1 year’s service.
