Edward James Perry was born in Croydon, Surrey, on 8 February 1857. He was employed by London, Brighton & South Coast Railway, at London Bridge, and gave his trade as paper boy when he joined the Royal Navy on 21 March 1873. He served as Signalman 3rd Class aboard Boadicea from November 1878 to March 1880, having been advanced to Signalman 2nd Class in October 1897. He was finally discharged as Yeoman of Signals from H.M.S. Hercules on 8 February 1885.

He joined the Metropolitan Police on 31 March 1890, was allotted the warrant number ‘75495, and was posted to Thames Division (River Police). He resigned from the Force on 27 September 1916, having completed 26 years 180 days service. Sold with copied record of service.
