James Millar was born in Dundee, Forfar, in 1879 and attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Cupar on 26 February 1901. He served with the 20th (Fife and Forfar Light Horse) Company, 6th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War from 16 March 1901, and died of dysentery at Blomfontein on 19 May 1901, after 83 days’ service.
