A scarce Second War and Korea campaign group of seven awarded to Sergeant J. H. E. Hale, East Surrey Regiment, taken prisoner of war at the fall of Singapore, 15 February 1942

Jack Henry Edward Hale was born in February 1924, and was a native of Addlestone, Surrey. He served during the Second War with the 2nd Battalion, East Surrey Regiment, and was taken prisoner of war at the fall of Singapore, 15 February 1942. He was held in a POW camp in Malaya.

The East Surrey Regiment were not present during the Korean campaign, and therefore Hale will have served on attachment with another regiment (his Korea Medal being named to his parent unit). The 1st Battalion, East Surrey Regiment served a short tour in Cyprus during 1958.
