90th (Perthshire Volunteers) (Light Infantry) Officer’s Gilt and Silver Shoulder Belt Plate Mount Worn By Henry Ashmore Evatt c. 1838 - 1845 Contained in a Glazed Wooden Frame, the badge comprises a strung bugle horn 6.8 x 6.4 cms with central section being a domed silver plate mounted with engine turned numerals ‘90’, the badge is mounted on a pink cloth ground this with gold thread battle honours ‘Martinique’, ‘Guadaloupe’, and ‘Perthshire Volunteers’, the early period wooden frame of oval outline with floral top and bottom mounts, a hand written note to the reverse states (erroneously) ‘Shako Badge of Henry Ashmore Evatt 90th L.I.’, the badge seemingly in excellent condition the frame with damage to the lower moulding otherwise in good overall condition £150-250

Note: This badge plus a separate St. Edward’s crown comprised the two mounts worn on the last rectangular pattern shoulder belt plate of the 90th 1843 - 1855 described in Parkyn page 150.

Henry Ashmore Evatt, the son of Colonel Ashmore 55th Westmoreland Regiment was Commissioned Ensign by purchase 22nd June 1838, promoted Lieutenant without purchase 22nd August 1841, in December 1845 he transfers to the Ceylon Rifle Regiment, where the regiment was stationed at that time.
