2nd Royal Surrey Militia Officer’s 1861-68 Pattern Shako, a good quality example later adapted to conform with the 1869 pattern regulations as silver braid lace has been applied, the frontal plate of 1855 pattern in silver plate with a gilt pierced Garter Proper centre, the cross also in gilt on a domed silver ground, buff leather sweatband with crimson silk lining (part detached), red silk quilted skull and body lining, complete with silver plated 1869 pattern side ornaments and chin chain, the silver plated plume holder of 1861 pattern with an all red wool ball tuft, the frontal plate is original to the shako, a small moth hole on the crown has been indifferently repaired otherwise in good overall condition
