Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 1 clasp, Natal (E. W. Whitlock, Pte. R.M.L.I., H.M.S. Thetis) edge bruise, good very fine £240-280

Ernest William Whitlock was in Islington, London, on 23 October 1880, and enlisted there in the Royal Marines on 11 January 1898, whilst currently serving in the 7th (Militia) Battalion, Rifle Brigade. Posted to the Chatham Division on 6 October of that year, he embarked on H.M.S. Thesis on 2 June 1899 and served in her during operations in South Africa during the Boer War. He was discharged by purchase on 2 December 1904, after 6 years and 326 days’ service.

Approximately 27 ‘Natal’ clasps to Royal Marines in H.M.S.
