India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Waziristan 1894-5 (2316 Lce Corpl J Goodman 2nd Bn Border Regt) nearly extremely fine £160-200

Joseph Goodman was born in Islington, Middlesex, in 1869, and enlisted in the Border Regiment in London on 4 January 1888. After a short period with the Depot, he transferred to the 2nd Battalion on 19 February of that year, and served with the Regiment in India from 21 February 1890. He served with the Waziristan Field Force under Lieutenant-General Sir William Lockhart in the operations against the Waziri tribesman between 2 December 1894 and 13 March 1895, and was appointed Lance Corporal on 1 April 1895. He returned to the U.K. to 1 April 1896, and transferred to the Army Reserve on 3 April of that year. Recalled to the Colours on 26 December 1899, following the outbreak of the Boer War, he served at Home with the Regiment for another year before taking his discharge on 20 February 1901.
