India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Naga 1879-80 (Surgn. J. O’Brien. 44th Bengal N.I.) naming officially engraved in running script, probably a slightly later issue with contemporary copy clasp, nearly extremely fine £400-500

Joseph O’Brien was born on 8 January 1844, and educated at Q.C. Cork and Ledwich School, Dublin; M.A. 1869; M.D. 1870; Q.U.I. M.R.C.S. 1869; L.R.C.P. and S. Ed. 1870; Assistant Surgeon, 1 April 1870; Surgeon, 1 July 1873. Served on the North-East Frontier, Naga Hills 1879-80 and action of Konoma (Despatches G.G.O.s No. 123 and 405 of 1880, medal with clasp). He retired on 19 August 1898, and died at Instow, Devon, on 29 December 1921.
