Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Chilianwala, Goojerat (G. Wheaton, 24th Foot.) nearly extremely fine £600-700

George Wheaton was born at Exeter and enlisted into the 9th Foot at Bristol on 6 January 1846, a blacksmith by trade. He arrived in Bengal in July 1846, and, while based at the military Depot at Chinsurah, he transferred, as a volunteer, to the 24th Foot on 31 December 1846. He was present at the battles of Chilianwala and Goojerat, in spite of having been wounded at Chilianwala on 13 January 1849. From July 1849 Wheaton was hospitalised at Wuzeerabad until his death from pneumonia on 4 October 1850.
