Military General Service 1793-1814, 2 clasps, Nivelle, Nive (Richd. Charlesworth, 84th Foot) extremely fine £1000-1200

Provenance: Glendining, April 1964.

Richard Charlesworth was born in the Parish of Leighton, Chester, and attested for an unlimited period of service in the 2/84th Foot on 4 May 1812 at Plymouth Dock, aged 25, a cotton spinner by trade and a volunteer from the Cheshire Militia. He is first traced in the muster rolls as a private serving with the 2/84th Foot on 15 September 1812. In addition to his service in the Peninsula, he also served at Fermoy, Limerick, Athlone and Galway. He was discharged on 19 December 1817, on the reduction of the Battalion.
