William Weeks was born in Tatsfield, Westerham, Surrey. He attested for the 60th Foot in October 1867, and served with the Regiment during the Second Afghan War 1878-80 (entitled to Afghanistan Medal with ‘Ahmed Khel’ and ‘Kandahar’ clasps, and awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. in 1886).
