Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Central India (Gunr. Wm. Cummins, 1st. Tp. H. Bde. Bombay Arty.) very fine £300-400

William Cummins was born at Baynalstown, Co. Carlow, and attested for the Honourable East India Company’s Artillery at Cork on 3 April 1856. He embarked for Bombay on the Owen Glendower on 20 August 1856, and arrived at Bombay on 21 December 1856. Posted as Gunner to 1st Troop Horse Brigade, Bombay Artillery, he served during the Mutiny in the actions at Jhansi, Calpee, and Gwalior, before subsequently transferring to the Royal Artillery. He was discharged on 27 December 1876.
