John Dand was the eldest son of Henry Dand, and was born in Castlehead, Stirling, in 1889. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Highlanders in the French theatre of war from 12 October 1914. The Battalion were particularly engaged in the Battle of Neuve Chappelle, 10 - 13 March 1915.

Private J. Dand died of wounds 12 April 1915, and is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.

Henry Dand was the younger brother of the above, and was born in Kirkcaldy, in 1895. He served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, Royal Highlanders in the French theatre of war from 19 September 1914. He was wounded in action, 6 December 1914. Dand subsequently transferred to the 2nd Battalion, and was serving with them in Mesopotamia when he died of wounds, 24 April 1916. The Battalion had been engaged in the attacks on Sannaiyat during April 1916.

Private H. Dand is buried in the Basra War Cemetery, Iraq.
