Indian Army Map Case, from the 1867-68 Abyssinia Expeditionary Force, the front painted ‘E. F. 1867, paint damaged in parts, fair condition £40-50

Sold together with a letter from the Rt. Hon Viscount Boyd, C.H., to his son, the Hon. Mark Lennox-Boyd, dated December 1975, which reads:
‘When you are finally adopted in a constituency I would like to get a map of it showing its boundaries for you to keep in this old Indian Army Map case!’

Viscount Boyd served as Secretary of State for the Colonies, 1954-59, and was raised to the peerage as Viscount Boyd in 1960. His youngest son, the Hon. Mark Lennox-Boyd (later Sir Mark) served as Member of Parliament for Morecambe and Lonsdale from 1979-97.
