A 2016 O.M.S.A. Convention Silver Medal Winning Display on The Africa Star

A fine and comprehensive display on the Africa Star, the first panel exhibiting two Africa Stars displaying the obverse and the reverse; the second panel exhibiting three Africa Stars each with one of the three different clasps: 1st Army, 8th Army, and North Africa 1942-43, together with their respective riband bar emblems; the third panel exhibiting two Africa Stars displaying two official naming styles: for South African Forces ‘3413 J. G. Hutchinson’; and Australian Imperial Forces ‘QX8321 W. R. Porter’; the fourth panel exhibiting the Africa Star in a typical medal group, comprising 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; War Medal 1939-45, all unnamed as issued; and the fifth panel exhibiting six samples showing how the Africa Star was manufactured from start to finish at the Canadian Mint in 1947, each from a different stage in the process, good very fine (lot) £80-120

This display was originally exhibited at the 57th O.M.S.A. Annual Convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 11-14 August 2016, and was awarded a Silver Medal.

Note: The samples that appear in the fifth panel are specifically of the 1939-45 Star; however, the process for manufacturing all the Second World War Stars was the same.
