Five: Flight Sergeant J. Finlayson, Southern Rhodesian Air Force, late South African Air Force

John Finlayson was born in Pretoria, South Africa in January 1918. He joined the South African Air Force in April 1937, and advanced to Air Mechanic in January 1939. Service during the Second War included with 11 (Bomber) Squadron in East Africa, May - December 1940; 24 Squadron in Egypt, December 1940 - December 1941 and 262 Squadron in Durban, December 1943 - November 1944. He advanced to Air Sergeant, and was discharged 21 April 1951.

Finlayson joined the Southern Rhodesian Air Force in 1951, and having advanced to Flight Sergeant was awarded his L.S. & G.C. in the Queen’s Birthday Parade, June 1955.
