M.S.M. London Gazette 1 January 1919:

‘This N.C.O. has rendered valuable services, both as N.C.O. in charge of Flight and in general duties.’

Frank Edwin Gordon was born in Islington, London, in January 1889. He joined the Navy as Boy Second Class in February 1905, and advanced to Able Seaman in May 1908. Gordon was re-classified as an Air Mechanic in the Royal Naval Air Service, 1 July 1914, and served as Petty Officer Mechanic at Crystal Palace, March 1916 - January 1918, and at Dunkirk, February - March 1918. The following month, with his transfer to the Royal Air Force, he was posted to 210 Squadron (Camels), when it formed from 10 (Naval) Squadron at Treizennes. Gordon advanced to Chief Mechanic i/c Flight whilst serving with 5 Group, R.A.F. in France.
