Harry Charlick was born in Newton Ferrers, Devon, in November 1868. He joined the Royal Navy as Boy Second Class in June 1884, and advanced to Able Seaman in March 1888. Subsequent service included in H.M.S. Philomel from November 1891. While serving in the latter he saw action with the Naval Brigade which was landed to take part in the campaign against Chief Nana of Brohemie, August - September 1894.

Having advanced to Petty Officer 2nd Class, Charlick was posted for service with H.M.S. Magicienne in November 1897. He was promoted to Petty Officer 1st Class in May the following year, and served with the Magicienne off the coast of South Africa during the Boer War. He also served with the latter for the Jubaland campaign, November 1900 - April 1901, when men of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines landed to supplement the garrison at Kismayu.

Charlick was pensioned ashore in November 1906, and joined the Royal Fleet Reserve. He was mobilised 2 August 1914, and saw service with H.M.S. Vivid I, Europa, Europa II, Vivid II and Hecla II during the Great War. Charlick was demobilised 1 April 1919, aged 52 years old. He resided in Plymouth in later life, and died in October 1928.
