The M.B.E. attributed to Mrs. Fanny MacPherson, Women’s Voluntary Services, Western Area, Scotland

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. (Civil) Member’s 2nd type lady’s shoulder badge, silver, on lady’s bow riband, in Garrard, London, case of issue; together with two related miniature awards, good very fine £70-90

Mrs. Fanny MacPherson served on the District Staff of the Women’s Voluntary Services for the Western Area of Scotland, and was awarded the M.B.E. in H.M. the Queen’s inaugural Birthday Honours’ List. She was invested with her M.B.E. at Buckingham Palace on 24 July 1952; also receiving a C.B.E. that day was the actor and director Anthony Quayle.

Sold together with the Bestowal Document for the M.B.E., named to Fanny, Mrs. MacPherson, and dated 5 June 1952; letter from 10 Downing Street informing the recipient of her award, dated 5 May 1952 and signed ‘J. Colville’; Central Chancery letter inviting the recipient to the investiture; a copy of the Statutes of the Order; two Service of Dedication service booklets, 1960 and 1963; and three photographs of the recipient, including one of her outside Buckingham Palace having received her M.B.E.
