Pamphlets in blue paper covers as issued, letter in fine condition and complete with red cord ties in which the six tokens were housed in transit (£40-60)

Provenance:
Ex libris Roy Rains; first two and letter acquired 1972, along with many of the tokens in his collection.

William Boyne wrote from 6 Moore Park Villas, Fulham, London S.W. The recipient is thought to have been possibly Thomas North, a founder member of what became the Leicestershire Architectural and Archaeological Society, who compiled the first listing for the county in 1855, or more likely a then youthful Joseph Young (
c.1844-1918), of 16 Gallowtree Gate, Leicester. Young was arguably the county’s foremost numismatist of his day. He was Williamson’s sub-editor for Leicestershire, subsequently penning a revised list, including Rutland, for the Transactions of the Leicestershire Architectural and Archaeological Society, 1913-14. His collection was dispersed at Sotheby’s in February 1919
