Netherlands, Victory over the Spanish Fleet on the Slaak by the Dutch Fleet, 1631, a silver medal by J. Loof for the States of Zeeland, detailed plan of the action, legend in 9 lines below, rev. legend in 15 lines, 54mm (MH 527; v.L. II, 194/4; cf. Sotheby Auction, 16 November 2000, lot 336). Cut on obverse rim at 3 o’clock and a small reverse edge bruise at 7 o’clock, otherwise very fine and toned, rare (£300-500)

The Dutch fleet, under Admiral Hollaare and Count Ernest of Nassau, captured or destroyed some 80 Spanish ships under the command of Count John of Nassau between Vianen and Stevenisse, on 13 September 1631. A total of 4,140 soldiers were captured and taken in detachments to Bergen-op-Zoom
