Provenance: The first Lord Kindersley, KBE, GBE (1871-1954), who served as a director of the Bank of England from 1914 to 1946, and by descent.

In November 1928 the Bank of England issued its first notes for Ten Shillings and its first One Pound notes for over 100 years. The initial 125 notes of each denomination were presented to dignitaries
